Floreana Island
Floreana Island is located at the southern part of the Galapagos archipelago. It is a very historical place because it used to be one of the places where whalers, pirates and buccaneers got supplies after traveling for several years in these waters. It was great for them to land here and collect giant tortoises as well as fresh water.
Cormorant Point, Champion Islet and Post Office Bay were our National Park visiting sites. Natures walks, a zodiac ride, kayaking and deep water snorkeling were the activities our guests could do in order to really explore all the ecosystems this island has to offer.
The weather conditions were perfect for everything; the visibility in the water was unbelievable; our guests could see so many new species, such as greater flamingos, yellow crowned night herons, red billed tropic birds, shearwaters, new, colorful fish species and a school of spotted eagle rays.
Our guests have new memories that they will never forget. They were lucky to visit la Picona beach, which is one of the most important nesting sites for green pacific sea turtles, during the nesting season. Many new nests were observed and they also saw sea turtles mating in the water.
Our day had a happy ending; kayaking back to the ship from an amazing coastline full of life. Now we are eager for more, ready for what is coming tomorrow: visiting the land of the giant tortoises!
