Española Island

It’s time to learn a little more about this beautiful paradise called the Galápagos Islands, and it is great to do it by visiting one of the best islands, Española. The landing site is Punta Suarez, situated on the western side of the island, where almost all the fauna congregates to give us an astonishing and amazing show of the high range of endemism on the island. Since the very first moment we set foot on the concrete jetty, we saw the welcome committee: sea lions, marine iguana, lava lizards, crabs, and more. As soon as we started to walk we realized that everywhere we looked, there was an animal there. A creature that looked completely different thousands of years ago can still exist here but with a different mechanism of adaptation for survival, and we were witnesses. We cannot forget to mention sightings of the waved albatrosses, the endemic species of booby (the Nazca booby), and Darwin’s finches.

At noon we had an Ecuadorian buffet lunch, with several dishes from different parts of our motherland. We then repositioned the ship to Gardner Bay. Later on our guests had the opportunity to experience the beautiful white sandy beach, the glass bottom boat, deep water snorkeling, and kayaking. There are no words to describe how nice this side of the island is, we felt something magical floating in the air that infected everyone. To watch a sea lion face to face is just something that we can not describe, it was fascinating!
