Floreana Island

Today in the morning, we had a very heavy rain during our visit to Post Office Bay. Letters from many countries were found wet but legible, and some of our guests volunteered to hand deliver them. They also dropped their lot in the barrel; fortune and the winds will tell how long it takes before this unorthodox method brings messages to their destinations. Right after, the sky cleared and we enjoyed the most beautiful rainbow! We could tell we had the weather in our hands! Then we headed back to the National Geographic Polaris for breakfast and got ready for a sunny morning in Champion islet, for a wonderful snorkeling experience with playful sea lions and many tropical fish. Some of us also went around the islet to look for the Floreana mockingbird, which is one of rarest birds in the world!

In the afternoon we disembarked in Cormorant Point, home of flamingos and sea turtles on Floreana. This place amazed us with its green sand, very rich in peridot, a semi-precious stone that gives this coloration to the sand. Those kayaking and snorkeling could tell of the warmest waters of the season. Our evening was terrifying with the creepy stories of early colonization of the Galápagos, mystery and murder!
