Santa Cruz & Sombrero Chino Island

Clear blue sky with a few cumulus clouds in the distance – another fabulous day is presented to us. Our first outing was at Cerro Dragon, on Santa Cruz Island. This was a new adventure for the entire group of guests; we had to see the Galápagos land iguana. This magnificent creature has evolved over time and for many generations has been in isolation in this remote archipelago far from any other land mass. They are now a different species, diverging from their origin. We were pleased to see a few of them, and for everyone it was very exciting to be walking through vegetation that at this time of year is so green, although a little more difficult to catch sight of this amazing reptile in its own realm.

After a hot hike the prize was forthcoming: time to start water activities. In this case the place is called Guy Fawkes, off Santa Cruz. The amount of wildlife that can be seen and the colors of every single creature are so beautiful that it is difficult to describe with words. This is another world below our kingdom; a realm that we can visit for only a short time, where we can not stay for long. A place we must take care of.

Later on the Captain repositioned the ship to another location. Sombrero Chino is a fascinating site in this smaller paradise, officially called the Columbus Archipelago.

Sombrero Chino is a small island located in the southeastern corner off Santiago Island. It has a narrow water channel, not so deep with a white sandy bottom that makes the water a turquoise color that contrasts with the black lava and an incredible candelabra cactus forest surrounded by a few parasitic cones.
