Floreana Island

Early in the morning we disembarked at the famous Post Office Bay. The post office barrel was opened and we continued the old tradition of leaving messages and picking up some to hand deliver them (if their destination addresses were close to our homes). Future visitors to the barrel will take our postcards and closing this peculiar delivering system that works without using stamps!

After breakfast we were ready for our activities around Champion Islet: snorkeling, glass bottom boat outings and Zodiac rides. Snorkeling was very successful; we were swimming along with the currents and hundreds of fish. Galápagos sea lions could not be more playful; we had so much fun with them! And the morning was not over yet, we went into the Zodiacs again this time to look for the rare Floreana Mockingbirds. Less than 200 individuals of this species exist today in the world, and we were lucky for we saw some of them! What a privilege for all of us. In the early afternoon we spent some time relaxing on the beach or kayaking. Our Wellness Specialist Patty conducted an amusing session called “animal stretching”. The latter activity was followed by many of our younger guests this week. We had great fun playing with sand and swimming with the children.

Later in the afternoon we visited Punta Cormorant. This visitor site has beautiful scenery dominated by shallow lagoon where Greater flamingos were spotted. We kept on walking following the path to a white beach. The sand of this beach is so fine that you can compare it with powdered sugar. Suddenly, in this peaceful panorama we were surprised by the frigate birds; all the groups stopped to observe the frantic activity that was taking place. The frigates were catching baby turtles from their nests! So many exciting things happened today that I just can not wait for tomorrow. This was an unforgettable day for all of us, but it is a normal one in this paradise. Amazing, the Galápagos Islands are just like that! What a day!
