Isabela & Fernandina Islands

Today we had a magnificent day in paradise. We woke up early to observe the exceptional views of the archipelago. Throughout the day we were impressed with the geological settings and their graceful ability to merge with the ocean.

All around these young islands a deserted landscape of volcanoes and parasitic cones dominated the scene. The Cromwell current, with its rich upwelling bathes both Isabela and Fernandina Islands. We were able to see first hand just how much wildlife thrives on these Islands.

Zodiac cruises combined with snorkeling and nature walks allowed us to observe many different animals; including the two endemic flightless bird species of the Galápagos, flightless cormorants and Galápagos penguins. We also saw Green sea turtles, blue footed boobies, Galápagos fur seals, Galápagos sea lions, marine iguanas, and many fish species.

At the end of the day we gathered in the National Geographic Polaris lounge to reminisce. It was hard to believe that in such a short period of time we had seen so many diverse species and habitats.

We can hardly wait to explore this enchanted archipelago further!
