Española Island
We are at the beginning of our journey across the Galápagos islands. This morning's visit was amazing. As soon as we landed we started to see most of what the island is famous for. We found the most colorful marine iguanas in the entire archipelago; across the beginning of our path, towards the deeper side of the island, we came across resting sea lions on the beach and curious mockingbirds welcoming us. We saw a couple of blue-footed boobies dancing, and Galápagos albatross in their amazing effort of raising their chicks.
Continuing with our walk, we arrived at the cliffs where we saw a breathtaking view of the ocean and also many sea birds nesting, flying, and fishing such as Nazca boobies, red billed tropic birds, swallow tailed gulls, and the always menacing Galápagos hawk looking for prey. We also saw marine iguanas taking their morning sunbath before going for their seaweed based breakfast at the bottom of the ocean. We could hear the thunderous sound of the blowhole spraying sea water all across the cliff area; everybody was very impressed by witnessing the power of nature.
The chef prepared a very tasteful buffet of ecuadorian food; then at 3:00 P.M. we got ready for the different activities, such as deep water snorkeling at Gardner islet, glass bottom boating, kayaking and relaxing on the beautiful beach with a large colony of sea lions. It was high tide, so the kids did some wave surfing, others walked down the beach to get a closer look at sea lions. We also did some snorkeling around the little rock in front of the beach where we found a lot of tropical and unique fish we also were surprised by finding white tip sharks.
Today’s experience was a magnificent one for all of us. You can noticed it in the smiling faces anxious for tomorrow’s wonderful surprises.
