Santa Cruz & Sombrero Chino Islands

The sun rose from behind Santa Cruz Island and over Dragon Hill; the sky looks nice and warm with a few clouds spread over the blue heavens; the sea is blue and turquoise in the shallow areas. This is how to begin another spectacular and fascinating day in this little paradise in the Pacific Ocean.

Our first outing took place in the north western side of Santa Cruz Island, a place called Dragon Hill. Here our guests had their first chance to see the Galápagos land iguanas in their own habitat. We spotted a few of them, and the most charming moment for all of us was when we sighted a baby land iguana warming up in the middle of the trail, this kind of moment does not happen very often. Every body from my group got the opportunity to get a photo of that amazing little being before it realized that we were there and ran off as fast it could to hide under the bushes and dry leaves.

Then we had some water activities; the deep water snorkeling took place adjacent to a beautiful small islet off Santa Cruz, and others went to the beach where we had one of those moments that you only see in documentary films. There were hundreds of blue footed boobies fishing off shore, plunge-diving, just in front of us. That was magnificent!

Later in the afternoon, we repositioned the ship to a different island. Sombrero Chino is a satellite island off Santiago, and there we had few outings: kayaks, snorkeling, and Zodiac rides; the scenery of this area is so impressive. This wonderful day could not finish without a nice sunset, and a delicious barbecue dinner outdoors followed.
