Delos

Our travels and explorations of the Cyclades and Dodecanese Islands have inspired us individually in many different ways. Today as we wandered the quiet windswept ruins of Delos, we took advantage of the opportunity for contemplation and reflection. We share with you the writings of one of our guests.

Panorama Poem

“The isles of Greece! The isles of Greece!”
(That’s Byron’s line, but now it’s mine.)
So many heroes knew these fabled shores -
No cruise ships then, but only sails and oars.
Odysseus and Aeneas roamed these seas
And visited the untamed Cyclades.
Odysseus -sort of- wanted to get home,
Aeneas needed to get busy founding Rome
But what’s the rush?
Adventures to he had, and women won -
Calypso, Dido, offered lots of fun -
(As well as others.)
As Jason to Medea was unkind,
And Theseus Ariadne left behind,
Alas, our heros wooed and loved – and left,
Farewell to ladies weeping and bereft.
I think thank the Gods that I am still afloat,
My love beside me on the homeward boat.
