Koufounisia & Mykonos
Early in the morning we sailed away from the island of Naxos, leaving it with great memories behind us. It was time to feel the Aegean Sea again, it was time to jump in to it, it was time to experience it again….!
We sailed to a very special island about two hours away from Naxos, to the north of it. Koufonisi awaited us…..it is actually part of a group of islands that the Greeks named Small Cyclades, Mikres Kiklades, as the four inhabited islands that compose it…. and the many smaller ones are mikra! We dived, we swam, we kayaked at the beach of Pouri with its turquoise water and white sand, our captain had wanted to share this special place with us.
Relaxed we sailed on to the ninth island that we were visiting on this wonderful voyage. The most famous of them all Mykonos, awaited for us now. It is the island to certainly see….but most importantly to be seen on! We wondered through the narrow white washed streets to find ourselves in front of the most photographed of all churches, Panagia Paraportiani – Virgin Mary or the Door, as it is situated at the by the entrance of the old castle town. We walked all the way to Venice, well not quite; Small Venice as it is called here in Mykonos, this is were the houses of the Captains were built, right next to the sea! We looked above us and here were the famous windmills, once sixteen today just a few remain to remind us of the different past the island once had!
