Milos & Sifnos
The day started by landing with our Zodiacs in Pollonia, at the island of Milos, and getting on our buses for a morning tour on the island. We saw the scanty remains of the ancient Doric city, the bay of Milos which is one of the largest natural harbors of the Mediterranean, and meandered in yet another Cycladic town, the capital of Plaka, before making a stop at the beach of Sarakiniko with its lunar landscape of pure white kaolin soil, eroded and contrasted by the intense blue of the Aegean. Every island has its character and Milos, with its extraordinary mineral wealth and moonscapes was another proof of that!
Our afternoon sail in the windy, but still sunny weather brought us to Sifnos and the harbor of Kamares. Many of us enjoyed a swim in the wonderful golden sandy beach and played with the waves in the shallow friendly waters, laying there, chatting away or sunbathing and absorbing the sea breeze, the sun and quietness of the late lazy afternoon!
Later in the evening, Sharon, our naturalist, took us on a lovely pictorial and narrative journey around the Mediterranean with her presentation on the olive tree and olive oil, which was beautifully concluded with a tasting of olive oil from various areas of the Balkans.
While many of us honored once more the very good cooking of our chef on board, some others sought the opportunity of venturing out and exploring the local tavernas and fish. Certainly, there were quite a few who, after dinner, checked out the excellent ice cream, and the bars! The right thing to do, in celebration of another victory of the US team in the World Cup!
