Milos/Sifnos

We are on the 6th day of our cruise and it started with wonderful weather…again! Some of us enjoyed a nice early morning swim in the waters of Poliegos Island and soon after that we started our sailing to Milos!

I believe that many of us didn’t expect what we were about to see: an amazing natural spectacle – a fascinating geological panorama: the rock formations descend sharply, wildly down to the water forming small coves and bays and at the same time they are enriched with so many different minerals.

The sailing around the island was en experience! We arrived in the island of Sifnos “the Lady of the Western Cyclades” and we docked at the island’s main port Kamares. It was from where we started our bus tour driving first to the south eastern part of the island where the beautiful Monastery of Chrysopigi (the Monastery of the Golden Fountain) is located. What a place!

On top of the cape that looks more like a narrow strip of land submerging in the water stands the whitewashed church proudly overlooking the endless blue of the Aegean Sea. After our stay there we drove northwards. We ended at the island’s Kastro, standing where during antiquity the Acropolis of the ancient city was. We were able to feel the passing of time, the uninterrupted human presence, everywhere around us could be seen the ruins of the past mixed together with the medieval structures. It was really nice and at the end of our walking tour our reward was some time at the Kastro’s cafeterias having a cold drink and a piece of delicious home baked lemon pie. That was a treat!

After that we boarded the bus, by driving by the two largest villages of Sifnos: Artemonas and Apollonia we returned back. Some of us decided to spend more time out by the port’s traditional small tavernas. Besides the pleasure of a nice meal by the water we did enjoy the friendliness and kindness of the local people.

Thank you for such a nice day!
