Isabela and Fernandina Islands
What a great day. Our ship repositions to the western part of the archipelago; Isabela and Fernandina are always rewarding. Early in the morning, sunrise promised to be magnificent, and so it was; meanwhile our ship circumnavigated Roca Redonda where thousands of sea birds are currently nested on that sea volcano summit. We had a brief contact with dolphins soon after our departure towards our next visitor site.
We crossed the equator and all our guests were able to see it on the GPS devices; some of us took a picture for a great reminiscence.
A couple of hours later we disembarked for an outstanding panga ride followed by snorkeling at the base of Ecuador volcano in a place called Punta Vicente Roca. This is the home for the world famous ocean sun fish, though a sighting is not always guaranteed. Our staff’s persistent eyes were able to find them! Geological formations under a blue sky were the prop for this activity. Soon after many awesome findings we headed back to our ship so we could get ready for our water activity, snorkeling; we had the company of pacific green turtles and many different fish. A couple of fur seals were playing around exchanging glances with us.
The afternoon was also exceptional since we had the opportunity to panga ride along side the Galápagos penguins before disembarking on this wonderful place. Our landing on Fernandina Island proved to be a delightful one, as we disembarked on a cement jetty for a walk on lava flows which appeared to be frozen. Flightless cormorants, marine iguanas, sally light foot crabs, sea lions were all coexisting with each other, reminding us of the power of nature as it goes beyond our interpretation. It is very difficult to describe this day, it is simply overwhelming! Believe me when I say that from now on all of our guests will become our ambassadors for witnessing the Galápagos at its best. My dear reader, you must see this for yourself to understand!
Our expedition continues but the best is yet to come…
