Bartolome & Santiago Islands
We are all keeping a close eye on water temperatures, wind and cloud formation, as Galápagos is entering an earlier than usual warm period.
We started off this morning with ideal conditions to climb Bartolome’s tuff cone, golden light and a gentle breeze. Some of the photographers were eager to get to the top quickly to take the early light while others relaxed and enjoyed the views of the different volcanic formations sprinkled with lava cacti.
After the official breakfast, water activities followed at the small beach with snorkeler’s swimmers and the Glass Bottom Boat. Parrot fish, damsels, sting rays, box fish, large schools of salemas and the infallible playful sea lion appeared underneath the glass window.
It was a busy and sporty morning, during the passage towards the west coast of James we were made available more photo shows and presentations and siesta time. The snorkeling session at James Bay was fabulous; blue-footed boobies were spearing a terrorized school of salemas right in our snorkeling area. Everyone got to see how these sporty birds earn their food underwater.
With a wonderful sunset we finished our last full day in this expedition.
