Fur sea lions or fur seals (Arctocephalus galapagoensis) are smaller than California sea lions, and have a bear-shaped rather than a dog-shaped head. Their eyes are much larger because they go out fishing at night rather than by day, and therefore need better vision. Their ears are more prominent, and they have thicker fur, for which they were heavily hunted in the 19th century.

We saw them today, in between the layers of lava, at Tower Island.
