Traveling on the open sea, walking on sandy shores, looking for strange creatures. What can be more fun than this? This is a common experience for our guests aboard the Polaris in the Galapagos Islands.
Today's visit was full of surprises. Lots of sea lions and marine iguanas waiting on the beach dock and, while walking on the trail, the sudden landing of a Galapagos' hawk made our day even better and this picture possible. Later in the morning we saw the albatross, the largest sea bird in the islands.
Landscapes were a joy to our eyes, too. While walking along the coast of the island, I had the chance to think how incredibly lucky I am to be in a place like this. It made me think how attached, and how we depend on each and every one of the species found on this planet. Biodiversity is good for humans. By destroying it, we could bring the axe down on our own heads. Fewer species in this planet will means fewer potential medicines and even if we stop eliminating species today, nobody reading this will see wildlife restored to its former glory. Let's think about it and let's do something….
