Genovesa Island

A day on the island of Genovesa is a day in paradise, especially if you are a photographer participant on Lindblad’s Photo Expedition. In fact, all of the Galápagos Islands are a photographer’s dream! The wildlife here ignores our presence, which makes capturing great images very easy, no matter the level of your photo experience.

This morning at first light, we landed on a small coral beach hidden in the corner of Darwin Bay to observe and capture on film or pixels the red-footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls and frigate birds during their nesting season. Thousands of birds were flying overhead, their voices welcoming us to shore. As we readied our equipment to capture the great frigate birds dramatic courtship display, an impressive male inflated his massive red gular pouch to attract a female flying overhead. His outstretched wings and turkey-like call lured her to the nest as our cameras clicked.

While our above-water cameras recovered from overuse, we cooled off with a snorkel in the refreshing waters of the bay. Several photographers brought along underwater gear and were surprised when a fur seal decided to join us in our snorkel adventure. His frolicking antics delighted the photographer and child in us all.

Opportunities to capture incredible images are extraordinary in the Galápagos Islands, Add to this the fascinating natural history facts, beautiful landscapes and new friends to share it with, the Galápagos Islands become an ideal destination for a Photo Expedition.
