Bartolome & Santiago Islands

The last day of our expedition has been tremendously successful. Two snorkeling outings with sea lions, turtles, penguins and lots of fish, what else can we ask for? Oh yes, the walk up 372 steps on Bartolome with a breathtaking view from the top, no problem – check that one out! Walking over a sand dune to see sharks right on the shore – check that one too!

Nature walks over the islands of Bartolome and Santiago take on different meanings since they are all full of pleasant surprises. Sea lions were literally everywhere, and we are not complaining, we loved it! It is hard to believe that from tomorrow on our guests won’t encounter a marine iguana in the middle of their path, as it is equally hard to believe that this week has gone by so fast. Yes, this week has come to an end, but many memories will stick in our minds forever, especially for our youngest guests who I am sure will remember Galápagos for a long time.

But the highlight of the day for me, and probably for many of our guests, was the choice of a sea lion to see his world from our glass bottom boat! It was so funny as well as unusual, to see a sea lion climbing the high-leveled rim of our glass-bottom boat and collapsing with laziness on one of the benches. It was even funnier to see the face of surprise of the boat’s driver, Jinsop, whose only concern was that the sea lion did not sign up for the trip!

Well, special things happen everywhere in the world, but the frequency of it in the Galápagos is outrageous! One thing that we are all sure about is that when the time comes for you to go back home, there will be always nice stories to tell your loved ones…
