Hood Island

We have spent the whole day exploring the oldest island of this archipelago, enjoying the terrestrial and marine ecosystems of this island.

Our location in the morning was Punta Suarez; which is one of the richest sites in wildlife in the Galápagos Islands. Right after we got on shore, we saw almost everything: sea lions body surfing in the shallows, marine iguanas sun bathing, sea birds all along the cliffs, such as blue footed boobies (some with chicks), Nazca boobies and the largest sea bird found in the islands, the magnificent waved albatross. We walked through their nesting ground and we saw them incubating their eggs and courting. This is the only place where waved albatrosses nest within the archipelago (and in the whole world), perhaps due to the topography of the island, perfectly flat and with high cliffs, great for taking off and landing.

In the afternoon we focused in water activities such as deep water snorkeling, swimming from the beach and experiencing the glass bottom boat. Our location then was Gardner bay, located on the northeastern corner of Espanola.

It was a wonderful day, we enjoyed the beauty of Galápagos, and we experienced its most touching characteristic, the innocence of its animals, as one can see on this picture where iguanas and human beings share in peace the sandy beach of Espanola Island.
