Bartolome Island

Today we woke up early in order to enjoy this paradisiacal island. The incredible volcanic formations like lava tubes, volcanic cones, ashes fields and a few but spectacular forms of animal life that are very well adapted to these difficult conditions were waiting for us. We disembark on a small dock and hiked to the top of Bartolome Island. A strong and constant wind blew and reminded us of the power of nature. Step by step we climbed, stopping once in a while to catch our breath and admire the volcanic landscape. From the summit we all saw the most famous view towards pinnacle rock, and the lava fields and craters of James Island.

After the morning’s hike everybody was ready for breakfast. We quickly recovered our energy and set off to snorkel and glass bottom boat from a lovely golden beach (see today’s picture). We were thrilled to snorkel/boat with penguins, sea turtles, sharks, sea stars and other marine creatures.

In the afternoon, Puerto Egas on the Island of James was our destination. Our walk took us to the wonderful lava grotos where the Galápagos fur seals were resting on the rocks. As we returned to the ship we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
