Floreana Island
The island of Floreana is a compelling presence itself, not just a place for scientific exploration. It is a symbol of human settlement in Galápagos, and a place of infinite enjoyment. We consider this island as a source of secrets yet to come.
From since the dawn of history, we have looked upon this as a mysterious island. And still today we seek the answers to the mystery of the many disappearances that have occurred here. Instead of answers to these secrets, we end up discovering places with fantastic, fearless animals. Around the islet of Champion, where we went snorkeling and out in the glass bottom boat, we found a terrific variety of colorful fishes. In the afternoon we walked to a brackish lagoon that is home to an amazing number of wading birds including these brilliant pink flamingos.
We were all grateful for the varied opportunities offered at this island; there was something interesting for each of us. On a personal note, I know that I owe much to these gracious animal species which include sea lions, penguins, flamingos and sharks. These are some of the creatures that we had the privilege to contemplate today, in their natural habitat. We cannot predict what we will discover or observe on any given visit to Floreana, but we are certain to encounter a slice of the natural beauty of these islands and to have the opportunity to watch the animals behaving and interacting.
