Hood Island
We were on the Southeastern most point of this Archipelago, visiting the island of Espanola or Hood. Punta Suarez, the morning visitor site, was just amazing. Right by the landing platform sea lion pups played everywhere, marine iguanas sun bathed, and the curious Hood mockingbirds hopped all over to see what they could get. Later on in the morning along the cliffs we saw Nazca boobies, swallow-tailed gulls and waved albatrosses. The baby albatrosses stole the attention of our guests, particularly one that was at the very edge watching the adults taking off and flying around. In a few months that baby together with all the adults will be gone from Espanola, to spend the warm season at sea.
In the afternoon we repositioned the ship toward Gardner Bay to focus on water activities such as swimming and snorkeling. It is always a lot of fun to go snorkeling in this diverse marine ecosystem.
Coming back on board, we dressed up in our Halloween costumes, and celebrated with chocolates and pumpkins having had a wonderful day on Espanola Island.
