Floreana and Isabela Islands

It is a great experience to be able to combine human history with natural history. Today’s visit gave us the chance to do both activities. Early in the morning we went ashore on Floreana Island, which was one of the most visited islands by pirates and whalers. In order to be in touch with the real outside world, as they did in the past, we dropped some postcards and letters in the barrel. Later in the morning we went in to the water around Champion islet and we did some water activities. Some people went to the glass bottom boat and the majority decided to do snorkeling. Which I have to admit, it turns out to be one of the fantastic experiences. We saw sharks, rays, sea lions and an abundant variety of fish. Water was clear like crystals; we had over a hundred feet visibility, making this outing to be one of the best in months.

During lunch, we navigated to the island of Isabela, here we had different options in term of activities. But, we all got to see a series of lagoons, with an amazing number of wader birds. Flamingoes and black-necked stilts were some of the colorful species that combined with the visit to the research center where we saw the famous giant tortoises; it turned out to be a nice finale.
