Espanola Island
It makes me really happy to see the joy in the eyes of people who walk on the Galápagos Islands for the first time. Before this trip, our guests do their research; they know that they will have close encounters with the animals, but between what you read to what you actually see and experience, there is a long trench. It is difficult to put into words what you get to do. It is hard to describe how innocent the Galápagos animals can be, how close they come to you, because it is actually they that come to you; you don’t have any need to try to get closer to them. This morning in Punta Suarez, mockingbirds landed next to us, even on some of us sometimes. Sea lions played, pulling the tails of marine iguanas a few feet away from our guests, and blue-footed boobies danced along the trails we walked.
The same thing happened underwater. When our guests jumped in, they immediately bumped into colorful fish, and even sharks and sea lions. I just hope this picture can transmit a bit of what we experienced today, but you really have to be here, to set your feet on the islands, and submerge your body within these waters to experience the totality of Galápagos.
