Bartolome and Santiago Islands

Our wonderful day began in the central area of the Galápagos archipelago by visiting two of the most attractive islands: Bartolome and Santiago.

We started our trip with a pre-breakfast outing to Bartolome. This is an island were we learned about geology and the process of arrival and settlement of many species of animals and plants. With time and isolation, this species became “exclusive to this unique region” making the Galápagos a unique place in the world.

After our delicious breakfast, we headed toward the beach. It was a nice surprise to encounter a female pacific green sea turtle, still covering and camouflaging her nest after laying her eggs. Sea turtles normally arrive to the beach during the night, but this one was apparently very late. We were cheering on the sea turtle as she made her way back to the sea, and hopefully we will see her again next year! We decided then to reassume our walk and cross the sand dune that connects the northern and southern beaches. In this area we found brown pelicans and their chicks, and it was not a bad place to observe a wonderful variety of shore birds as well.

Many of our guests went snorkeling and had an amazing time swimming with penguins, lots of colourful fish and marine iguanas.

After this outstanding morning, we navigated to Santiago Island for our afternoon’s activities. We then played with sea lions on the beach, while others snorkeled with the sea turtles. For those who wanted to have some more walking, we took a very relaxing stroll along the shoreline of Puerto Egas. We observed then for last time, marine iguanas, fur seals, shore birds, and colourful sally light foot crabs.

We were so thrilled by all the things that we encountered in this island and by all the wonderful experiences we shared together during this week.
