Española Island

This wonderful island is a very special one for all its visitors. There are many different reasons that make this place extraordinary. One of them is the mind-blowing abundance of wildlife found there.

A very large colony of Galápagos sea lions welcomed us today. We observed these cute animals in all the different positions you can imagine: sleeping, swimming, and piled-up one on top of each other. It is amusing just to sit in front of them and have the joy of observing their behavior. For many of our guests, these beloved marine mammals became by far their favorites. Some other animal species that live on this island as well are the endemic and colorful Española marine iguana, the Española lava lizard, the curious Española mockingbird, and Darwin finches, among some others. At this time of the year this island looks its best. Everywhere you look you have some kind of activity going on. There is a very large colony of blue-footed boobies as well. Many of them are still incubating eggs; some others already have little chicks in all the different stages that range from very small to medium size chicks. Last but not the least, the fabulous waved albatross was admired at a very close range. To top the day off, we had a beautiful sunset that just made us dream about the wonders that are still yet to come in this week we just started.
