Bartholomew and Santiago Islands

Our morning began with an outstanding visit to the summit of Bartholomew Island to explore the beautiful scenery and geology of this island. One of the most attractive features of this place besides its geology is the view: these two beaches separated by a narrow stretch of vegetation, with a pointy pinnacle rock on the side, surrounded by blue ocean.

After this hike we came aboard to have a delicious breakfast served on the teak deck. Later we went ashore to enjoy water activities combined with a short walk through a golden-colored dune to the other side of the island, where we saw some white-tipped reef sharks and very curious brown pelicans.

Some guests went snorkeling and were joined in the water by very friendly penguins like this one in the picture. This penguin came towards the camera and literally tried to sneak a quick look at the camera before continuing to hunt for more fish.

After all this morning’s excitement and adventure, we went to Santiago Island and had an amazing time visiting this place as our last excursion of the day. While walking along the shore we spotted a small spout of a whale, and we found a very relaxed Pacific green sea turtle feeding on algae inside a tidal pool, while big male Galápagos sea lions watched over their territories.
