Española Island

Despite the fact that every day seems to be very different here in the Galápagos, today was far more special than others. Here in the Galápagos, you always have to be prepared for the unthinkable, and yet be very surprised with some unusual sightings and behaviors. Well, after observing a couple of hundreds of blue-footed boobies, iguanas, sea lions and albatrosses literally in the middle of the trail, we headed off to the cliff area where we sat and relaxed for a few minutes.

For me, this is my second time in all my years working as a guide that I had observed such behavior on a booby. The funny part is that this time I had the same question pop up in my mind as when I saw this for the first time…what was she thinking?

We are always fascinated by the secrets of our Mother Nature, and here in the Galápagos, nature had decided to test once again its infinite wisdom. From my part, I would like to see a magical ending to this “fairy tale” and think that nature has finally found the Pinocchio of the birds. Soon, it would be granted with a wish and some day it would wake up as an albatross…
