The tide was low this morning when we arrived at Lake Eva, on the northeast side of Baranof Island. Kayaking was offered as well as a hike to the lake to see the salmon as they make their way up the streams. The hike turned into an adventure when a female brown bear and her three cubs made their way along the stream to catch some salmon. It was our closest look yet at the coastal brown bear -- we had seen them only from a distance while on the ship. The mother and cubs moved to the other side of the stream and on into the forest. This was a great opportunity to see the bears up close and the excitement was intense.
