Meriwether Lewis and William Clark named this distinctive formation "Hat Rock." The once-mighty Columbia River now flows placidly by, controlled by hundreds of dams. Structures dot the scape around this basaltic butte. The river has been transformed, homes have been built at its base but Hat Rock remains as it was when the members of the Corps of Discovery first passed on their way to the western sea.
