At Sea

8:00 am – Tom O’Brien the expedition leader softly comes through the PA “Breakfast is being served” – it’s a beautiful morning and the sails will be going aloft soon to set the sail. It’s a day at sea sailing south toward Rhodes with a gentle breeze under full sail.

I woke this morning with a big smile. I had had one of the most engaging discussions ever – where two of our guests, Nancy and Lucy displayed some very rare behavior. They are best friends and at the same time are polar opposites politically. There was spirited debate without the slightest hint of acrimony. Rare indeed - a strong breath of fresh air.

I’ve longed for this day after much travel – no agenda except for finding a nook with a book and engaging in delightful conversation. Gil Grosvenor and I gave a talk about a relationship between Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic – about geographic education, Gil’s passion – conservation and exploration – lots of questions, lots of fun.

Then a delicious lunch followed by my highlight of the day: a NAP – a rare luxury most appreciated.

The afternoon was just peaceful with continued conversation and we all began to look forward to tomorrow and our visit to Rhodes.
