Dubrovnik
Today we moored in the port Gruz in Dubrovnik and from there took buses to get to the Old Town of Dubrovnik. We started our walk around the town at the Ploèe Gate. We walked the limestone streets that look like marble, took some good pictures of the old Dubrovnik palaces, visited the old pharmacy museum, and then started our walk around city walls...the main reason that Dubrovnik is nicknamed as a pearl of the Adriatic. From the famous walls we saw the fabulous Dubrovnik red roofs, clean Adriatic sea and the mysterious island of Lokrum. The walk was fantastic, and it gave us a lot of opportunities to take a lot of interesting pictures.
The lunch on board was very interesting because of our special guest – a lady from Dubrovnik, Romana, whose picture was published in National Geographic 50 years ago when no one could have known that she would have become one of Dubrovnik's well known painters.
At 4:00 p.m. I gave a presentation about Croatia, trying to combine a bit of history, culture, geography and gastronomy. It was preparation for what was following: a taste of Croatian traditional music – klapa song. It is a group of men singing, in different voices, an a capella song – creating its melody. The concert took place at the cloister of Dubrovnik's Dominican monastery, which is well known as a place with fabulous acoustics. We were in another world, klapa 'Oštro' singing, taking our full attention.
After that special performance, some decided to join Sharon for night photography and some of us decided to spend an evening in Dubrovnik and let its romance make us fall in love with the town that stands on those rocks since 7th century. It makes us wonder about the glorious history and the secrets its stones are hiding from us.
