It has been a rather astounding day. We started out with a close look at a group of sea otters and proceeded on to the tiny village of Elfin Cove where we gained insights into the varied aspects of life in an isolated fishing community. This was followed by a barbecue lunch on the deck.

In the afternoon, we explored George Island by Zodiac and by foot, spotting more otters and pelagic cormorants and had close encounters with a humpback whale. As the day progressed, the skies gradually cleared and the winds calmed allowing the Sea Lion to pass through Cross Sound to the north Pacific where we viewed a panorama of the spectacular peaks in the Fairweather range and the Brady Glacier stretching seaward.

After dinner, in the vicinity of Point Adolphus, we were treated to a real show featuring about 15 humpback whales. At the end of the day Mount Fairweather itself appeared out of the clouds rising 15,300 feet.
