Jumping Jehosephats!! Have you ever seen a humpback whale breach? How about video footage taken from it's back as it does? Just when you think a perfect day can't get any better, it did. After a morning of Zodiac cruising through the icebergs calving off of the LeConte glacier, and an afternoon of visiting the fishing community of Petersburg and hiking through the carnivorous plants of a Southeastern bog, we were treated to an incredible surprise ending. As luck would have it, the M/V Evolution was in Petersburg to re-supply and we convinced Pieter Folkens of the Alaska Whale Foundation to give us an evening slide-show/video presentation about the latest in humpback research here in SE Alaska.

The Alaska Whale Foundation is on the cutting edge of research and after showing us a few slides, Pieter surprised and stunned us all with video footage taken from a "critter-cam" temporarily attached to a humpback whale's back. Yeee-haa! What a ride and what a way to end a great day!
