The first day of our journey was spent travelling east along the Columbia River. Before lunch the Sea Lion moved through the Blalock islands on our way to McNary dam. We got to see several white pelicans as they walked along the bank of one of the islands. There were also a number of other waterfowl, including mallards, wood ducks, coots, and great blue herons.

After lunch there were walks in the McNary wildlife refuge, where we enjoyed further sightings of more birds and plants in a wetland area created by the Corps of Engineers.
