Just Another Day in Baja, California
When our Zodiacs propelled us through turquoise water and we landed on the stunning white beach edging Bahia Bonanza, I thought we were headed for a great day in Baja California. The desert agaves’ huge yellow blooms hovered above us in the clear morning air as we walked along admiring arroyo plants that were unexpectedly green and leafy. Costa’s hummingbirds were abundant, searching for nectar and perching nearly long enough for a photograph.
Later in the morning, following a snorkel in clear 80 degree water with guinea fowl puffers, an octopus, many balloon fish, schools of mullet, king angels and many more delightful creatures, I was sure we were already enjoying a great day in Baja California.
The post lunch common dolphins and bow-riding bottlenose dolphins on a calm sea with a backdrop of Isla Espirtu Santo were pretty convincing too. But in the end, it was when that enormous surprise of a blue whale just about collided with the bow of the Sea Voyager and a bottlenose dolphin jumped over her, that I was finally convinced that this was indeed a great day in Baja California.
Now if we could just find time for that promised siesta.
