Osa Peninsula - Playa San Josecito and Corcovado National Park

A deep breath on the sundeck, frigates flying overhead, waves crashing on the rocks - capturing an early morning moment via yoga on the sundeck of the Sea Voyager. With the sun peeking through the clouds, we dropped anchor outside of Playa Josecito, Osa Peninsula, for bird watching and snorkeling. We strapped on our walking shoes- some exploring the hidden coastline, discovering several deserted beaches along Rio Claro, while others toured the seaside gardens. Upon return to the beach, all were ready for a refreshing swim. Equipped with mask, snorkel and flippers we set out for underwater exploration viewing Guineafowl puffers and bicolor parrotfish darting through the coral.

With the sun shining brightly, we returned to the ship for lunch and a brief sail to the southwestern corner of Osa Peninsula to visit Corcovado National Park, the best remaining Pacific coastal rainforest in Central America. Undisturbed until the 1960’s, this remote forest became a park in 1975 and is home to more than 500 tree species. Via two trail options, we hiked into the rainforest, some searching for birds and others climbing the rocks to a pristine waterfall. We viewed crocodiles, coatimundis, spider monkeys and the violaceous trogon.

After the active day ashore, little did we know the festivities had just begun! We enjoyed cocktails together and were then treated to a typical Costa Rican dinner followed by Merengue dance lessons in the bar lounge. We danced until the full moon guided us back to our cabins to rest and prepare for another perfect day in tropical paradise.
