Manuel Antonio National Park

A beautiful sunrise was a preview of what we were going to see in Manuel Antonio National Park to start our expedition through Costa Rica and Panama. This park is a very diverse forest and there were options of hikes for all levels and interests. By the end of the morning there was not a single person who can say that did not see most of the representative forms of wildlife of the park.

The contrasting behavior of the hyperactive White-faced Capuchin monkeys and the lethargic Howler monkeys, the well camouflaged black spiny-tailed ctenosaurs, two-toed sloths and even a fight between a couple of three-toed sloths, a very unusual thing to see by the way, were some of the attractions of this jewel of Costa Rica. And if all this was not enough some of us got to see a Collared anteater.

After this introduction to nature, there was time to explore the beach and play with the waves, enjoying the beauty of the landscape. We all came back aboard to start our sail towards the south Pacific side of Costa Rica where another day full of surprises is about to start.

After a wonderful day in the forest and after a delicious New Year’s dinner our crew members had prepared a marvelous surprise for our guests… while we were anchored in Drake Bay they gave us a display of fireworks to wish everyone a wonderful 2007 full of success and happiness. It was a perfect day to end the year 2006 and to start our adventure through Panama and Costa Rica.
