San Josecito & Corcovado National Park

A fresh sunrise broke with clear indications that this was going to be a sunny day, and indeed it proved to be.

With an early departure we began a glorious day in southern pacific Costa Rica. Little did we know what the day had in store for us. The first pleasant surprise was to see that there was not a rough tide at the moment of doing the first beach landing.

The sun rose and kept shining and the ocean waves continued to kiss the sand with a soft caress. Some of the guests went on a diverse walk on the garden grounds of San Josecito Paradise Bay, discovering an incredible amount of plants from other areas of the planet. In the mean time another group headed off to the beautiful and ever changing Rio Claro, were the natural surroundings never cease to amaze the travelers that come to discover its beauty. Macaws filled the trees and sky making sure that everyone noticed their unbelievable beauty, and toucans ate on the ground giving an impression of chickens on a rural house feeding. Utterly mind-blowing.

Another group headed to Rincon beach for some exciting horseback riding mixed with a rich explanation of the social components of the community of the beach; were an interesting program for the protection of marine turtles is taking place. Riding to the end of the beach we walked to discover a beautiful waterfall, not too big but rich in its essence.

In the early afternoon the news of the sighting of a humpback whale got the whole ship in an uproar and quickly everybody descended to board the Zodiacs in the pursuit of the sight. Little did we know the show what laid ahead… A humpback mother with her calf appeared in front of us. Clearly the young was experiencing the world through new eyes full of amazement and excitement. The calf was showing a lack of fear to our approach.

Almost immediately after coming back to the ship we packed our gear and headed to another impressive adventure in the Corcovado National Park. The excitement that could be felt in the people and seen in their eyes was the will to discover the beauty of life found within the endless flow of nature.

Majestic trees and lush greenery surrounded us, creating a feeling of integration with everything. Spider monkeys sprung from nowhere filling everyone with shear joy, the sight of a king vulture reminded us of the cycle of life. Everything that begins, has an end. Also days come to a finish and with the sunset came the farewell that a humpback mother and her calf gave to us, breaching for all to see in front of our ship to remind us again of the endless love and respect that we should have for life and for each other.
