Coiba Island, Panama

Today we arrived at Coiba under a light shower of rain. After anchoring in front of the Granito de Oro Islet very soon we began the disembarkation. We were able to see lots of coral reef fish and even a white-tipped shark around this incredible place. The waters were perfectly clear and even warmer than the rain. The overcast skies made our adventure more comfortable than we expected. In actuality, the rain became an important factor while the day developed, preventing the usual tropical hot temperatures. Of course the precipitation allowed us to see why Coiba Island has such enormous exuberant flora and fauna. Some of us decided to snorkel while others opted for a kayak trip.

After repositioning the vessel, we visited Coiba’s ranger headquarters; from their beautiful beach many of the kayaks were launched again and this time under ideal conditions. Many of the kayakers found interesting species along the forest edge such as monkeys, iguanas and some of the island's birds. Our guests had the opportunity to do a very relaxing walk or explore the beach and rocks looking for some shells and reef marine life. While some of us were kayaking and others birding, those who took the walk found the endemic Coiba Agouti. Late in the afternoon we came back from Coiba and before the night came down we lifted the anchor and departed from this exotic and beautiful site.
