A few of the smaller Galápagos Islands are found north of the Equator line. Under the influence of the Panama Flow, the waters in this region are warmer. Genovesa is a safe-haven for many seabird species, which can find a vast ocean for foraging. This island is the remnant of a former volcano; erosion by sea and wind action have caused the collapse of its southeastern rim giving way to the ocean, so we anchored inside this stunning caldera. Not having suffered from introduced mammalian carnivorous species, creatures here –mostly birds- thrive and are ecologically naïve, making this a formidable visit.
