Today, we visited Genovesa Island, a remarkable destination located in the Northern Hemisphere and home to over a million seabirds and land birds. One of its most iconic inhabitants is the red-footed booby. This island is unique, as its open crater allows vessels to anchor within its caldera.
Early in the morning, we arrived at the island and disembarked at Darwin Bay. As we walked along the beach, we observed numerous red-footed boobies and both magnificent and great frigatebirds nesting among the mangroves. Playful sea lions on the shore entertained our guests, adding to the magical atmosphere.
Following our visit to Darwin Bay, we prepared for an incredible snorkeling experience. It was truly unforgettable—we encountered hammerhead and Galápagos sharks.
In the afternoon, we explored a different side of Genovesa, landing at a site known as El Barranco. As we hiked inland, we once again encountered red-footed boobies and frigatebirds, but the highlight was spotting a Galápagos short-eared owl hunting small storm petrels, a fascinating moment in this wild ecosystem.
This incredible day on Genovesa Island was a perfect reminder of the natural wonders that make the Galápagos such a special place.
