What a glorious morning we had waking and dining for breakfast with the Lamplugh glacier as our incredible backdrop. Next, we made our way around Jaw Point, where we had jaw-dropping views of a clear sunlit fjord leading to Johns Hopkins Glacier. We watched many black-legged kittiwakes dive for stunned food as the glacier calved. Making our way out through the clustered icebergs, we spotted hundreds of harbor seals resting atop the ice.
A brown bear with a cub as well as a single brown bear were spotted in Russell Cut. After lunch, we were treated to more amazing wildlife as we scoured Gloomy Knob for mountain goats. On a hot sunny day like this, they were hard to find, but we were finally rewarded for our vigilance when we found two resting down low on the point. We found a very close bear in Tidal Inlet that remained determinedly flipping boulders as though they were weightless.
South Marble Island was a treat topped with gregarious Steller sea lions, cormorants, puffins and more. As we sailed to the entrance of Glacier Bay, luck was on our side, the public dock had space for us, so we could get off the ship and stretch our legs at Bartlett Cove. Could not have asked for a more remarkable day!
