At six o’clock this morning just as the clouds lifted and the fog started to thin, National Geographic Venture approached the Johns Hopkins Glacier. The lighting on the surrounding mountains and glaciers was inspiring to the photographic eye. These views prompted an early morning wake-up call to come join the staff on the bow for a magnificent view of this wonderful “tidewater” glacier!

After breakfast, our mighty expedition ship took us across Glacier Bay, through Russell Cut, and south along the eastern shore. We spotted sea otters, mountain goats, a brown bear, and a large variety of birds as we slowly cruised along. We explored several inlets that are not always on our Glacier Bay itinerary and made our way slowly out of one of the jewels of the national parks. Another incredible day in Southeast Alaska!
