Bears, bears, and bears, oh my! What a magical day we had in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. We started our morning bright and early in Johns Hopkins Inlet with a beautiful view of Johns Hopkins Glacier. This tidewater glacier provides a great habitat for the many harbor seals who come here to take refuge from their main predators, the orca, and to give birth to their pups during May and June.
Moving on, we took in the sights at Margerie Glacier before heading south toward Gloomy Knob and Tidal Inlet. As we rounded the corner at Gloomy Knob, a brown bear came into view. Then, another, and another, and another until we had spotted 11 brown bears within about an hour!
Following our bear sightings, we continued to South Marble Island, where we saw Steller sea lions, hauled out on rocks, and an array of birds including horned puffins and common murres. We made our way down to Bartlett Cove. Once at the dock, we hiked and explored the area before another lovely dinner aboard National Geographic Sea Bird. Now, onto Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness!
