Today we celebrated the summer solstice in Haines, Alaska.  We’ve seen diverse landscapes, extraordinary sightings and unique sounds, and they’ve provided great inspiration for photography and our individual contemplations.

Our youngest travelers were invited to share some of their reflections with you – these are their contributions.

Polar Bears

Elias Wilson, age 10

White, furry, sharp teeth

Floating, swimming, eating, basking, playing and sleeping

I am envious of their survival in the cold climate

Sea bears.

Alaska

Riley Reid, age 12

I was up in Alaska with not much to lose

When I spotted a moose wearing shoes.

There was also a bear climbing a spruce,

eating salmon with blackberry juice.

We saw 20,000 otters and met a Tlingit potter

With a wolf as her daughter.

Hopefully I inspired you to go to Alaska,

It is an amazing trip I highly promise ya!

Mar

Nina Adrian, age 11

El mar es un lugar

Donde tu puedes andar.

Con las nurtias a tu lado

Y tu como un helado.

Aveces frio, aveces caliente

Pero nonce ardiente.

Puedes nadir y nadir

Pero el final nunca encontrar

Solo los que tienen valor

Encontraran el amor

El amor que existe

En este escondite.
