Today was a truly spectacular finale to our adventure in Southeast Alaska.

After breakfast, we dropped anchor in Hanus Bay to enjoy one last visit to this lush, green, moss-draped wilderness. Less than 100 yards up the trail, we found fresh bear scat containing plants that the local brown bears have been feeding on as they await the salmon. Huge banana slugs, the most charismatic of slugs, grazed upon the wet vegetation of the forest floor.

While the moderate and casual hikers took time to explore the salmon stream and feast on blueberries and salmonberries, the long hikers trekked up to Lake Eva. Some were lucky enough to see a brown bear and her two cubs at the edge of the muskeg.

After returning to the ship, the young Global Explorers enjoyed Zodiac lessons and entertained guests as they cruised by the fantail for photo ops.

The day ended with a stellar guest slide show and the beginning of our long emotional goodbyes as guests began to pack up and get ready for their return to civilization.
