This morning was the first of our Columbia and Snake Rivers expedition, as we embarked from Clarkston, Washington on our journey west. To start our adventure, we boarded jet boats to explore Hells Canyon, a beautiful gorge further up the Snake River.
Most of the area we explored is inaccessible by road, and the few residents use boats or planes to reach their homes. As we cruised through the canyon, we spotted wild turkeys, mule deer, and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
After enjoying lunch in a restaurant with a spectacular view of the Snake River, we headed back to the ship. There we enjoyed talks from Nez Perce storyteller James Spencer and local winemaker Coco Umiker of Clearwater Canyon Cellars.
Tonight, we cruise down the Snake River toward the Columbia, and we look forward to making more memories tomorrow!
