The day began with a quiet morning in Clarkston Idaho…that is, until jet boats roared into the valley to tie up alongside National Geographic Sea Bird and spirit away her guests for an exciting venture up the Snake River into Hells Canyon. Traveling over 100 miles, guests were able to get spectacular views of the country’s deepest gorge, deeper even than the Grand Canyon itself. Jet boats are a local favorite as they allow for passage upstream over shallow gravel bars and even over rapids. A quick stop at Cache Creek historical site allowed guests to stretch their legs before continuing upstream to the confluence of the Snake and Salmon Rivers.

On the return trip, we stopped for lunch at a local lodge before finishing the day with a talk from a member of the Nez Perce tribe, J.R. Spencer and a presentation by local winemaker, Coco Umaker.
