This summer marks the inaugural Iceland voyages for National Geographic Expeditions Adventurers, an onboard program for younger guests. We report today from the port of Húsavík and from the point of view of our National Geographic Expeditions Adventurers participants.

We went in different directions by bus and by foot today and returned to compare our stories of thunderous waterfalls, volcanic formations, relaxing spa time, and the whale museum. We were wowed by the size of a sperm whale heart! One of our Adventurers is native to Iceland, and she just politely chuckled at the quaint mistakes of the foreigners. We laughed with her and talked about trolls. Iceland is known for its trolls, and the Adventurers looked for them today among the rocks and penned a poem:

Felix saw a troll.

It was big and colossal.

No one else saw it.

Dinner was an Adventurers-only pizza party (also known as Parents’ Date Night)! The night closed with a private onboard performance by Icelandic musician Svavar. In addition to his beautiful guitar and voice, he shared some wisdom on the Icelandic climate as we laughed at the cold rain outside, “In Iceland we have two seasons: winter and disappointment.”
